Calling wine lovers! – Ohio Wineries

Did you know there are over 100 wineries in Ohio?

According to Wine America, Ohio ranks 7th in wine producing and 8th  in the top 10 wineries.

They are divided by geographic and include Lake Erie Shores & Islands, Vines & Wines, Canal Country, Capital City, Appalachian and Ohio River Valley.

Here the last stats from WineAmerica in 2014.

I really enjoy a good glass of wine, even though I’m not a wine connoisseur I do know my favorites and how to pair them with food. When it comes to whites, my favorites are Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer. When it comes to reds I like malbec and merlot.

I had the chance to visit some of the wineries in 2017 and 2018. Now that I live in Sandusky one of my favorite pastimes is visiting these wineries and also winebars.

Many local wines can easily be purchased at the supermarket. BUT the best way to experience and compare wine samplings is in-person at the winery!

Each winery in the Lake Erie Shores & Islands has something different and exciting to offer. I’ve compiled some of the top wineries, their websites (Click on the name to visit) and also my favorite wine from the ones I already visited.

Their food menu is very good. I love their pizza.

FirelandsVisited

On New years eve we had dinner in Bay Harbor and we ordered a raspberry riesling that caught our attention in the menu and OMG it became our favorite right away.

The name is La Vele Riesling Raspberry and belongs to Firelands winery.

Tastings: From $4 to $7

Here is a list of the ones I haven’t visited yet but will soon:

Wine tastings and tours are another option for those wishing to explore the Lake Erie Shores & Islands Wine Trail.

For wine tasting bars there is Vine & Olive and their Fantastic Fridays tastings, where you can enjoy 5 wines samplers, plus a buffet of light appetizers for $10pp. No need to RSVP. Sometimes they have specific events with a different cover fee but still worthy.

There is also another place called Crush Winebar that we will be visiting soon!

In the summer there is a cruise that offers a wine tasting with dinner, and this year will be on July 7th at the Goodtime I cruise

If you live in the area or planning to visit and love wine! Hopefully you add to your list some of these wineries.
